William Juhre, who is curator of art at the Neville Public Museum, Green Bay...

...although well-known for his portrait abilities, Mr Juhre also paints many landscapes, both in water color and oils. He previously has exhibited at the Chicago Art Institute and various small galleries.

Mr Juhre has had a varied and very successful career in the art world prior to his retirement in November 1953. While formerly concentrating on commercial art work, he was the artist who drew the Orbit comic strip and worked with Edgar Rice Burrough's TARZAN comic strip. He also drew for several advertising studios and agencies and illustrated for magazine stories and covers.

Besides being staff artist and political cartoonist for the Milwaukee Journal for several years, he was art director of the Chicago American Herald. For eight years he taught figure drawing, illustration, anatomy and cartooning at the American Academy of Art in Chicago.

At the 1955 Northeastern Wisconsin Fair in DePere, Mr Juhre took the grand prize in art. He also has won awards at the Wisconsin State Fair and has been cited for excellence in commercial art circles.

Residence of the artist is Scray's Hill, DePere, where a life's yearning to paint is being realized.
