Jack Lamar Barnes, 79, of Waycross died Saturday night (9-23-06) at his residence after a short illness. He was a life long resident of Ware County, son of the late Elizabeth Rabon and the widower of the late Doris Eloise McQuaig Barnes.
He retired in 1987 as a machinist with the Waycross Shops CSX Railroad after 43 of service. Mr. Barnes was a very active member of Deenwood Baptist Church, an avid camper, and being a member of the Over The Hill Gang.
He served with the U. S. Navy during World War II on the USS Kula Gulf. Following his naval service he served with the Georgia National Guard and retired in 1966 as a Master Sgt.with 25 years of service. He was a member of the Frank C. Folks Lodge # 192 F & AM, Waycross Shrine Club and the Hasan Temple.
He is survived by one son Jimmy Barnes, wife Pat of Blackshear, Georgia, two daughters Jacque Eubanks, husband Glenn of Panacea, Florida, and Jeanne Mack, husband Dennis of Lawrenceville, Georgia, three sisters Nell McLain of Nahunta, Georgia, Emma Jean Mathis and Sara Ann Brackin both of Iron City, Georgia, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning (09-27-06) at eleven o'clock at the Deenwood Baptist Church. Burial will be in Kettle Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home from six until eight o'clock Tuesday night. - Miles Odum Funeral Home Website
