In the Saturday, April 3, 1915 edition of the Carthage Press newspaper, it highlighted the Republican candidates for city council. It read:

JOHN CURLEE

Who is the Republican nominee for member of the city council from the fourth ward, came to Carthage with his parents when he was fourteen years of age. He was born in Mountain Home, Arkansas in 1892 and is consequently just past 30 years of age. He grew up here, was educated in the Carthage schools and has spent most of his life in this city.
He is a druggist by profession and has long been in the employ of the Wells Drug Company, his period of service with that firm covering a period of about ten years. He is also a well known military man, being first lieutenant of Battery A, of this city.
There is not a more highly respected or more exemplary young man in the fourth ward than John Curlee.
He is energetic and enterprising and whatever he undertakes he does with enthusiasm and earnestness. He is clean and reliable, believes in law enforcement and will stand for that policy if elected. He will make a first class councilman, one of whom the fourth ward and the city may well be proud. He is married and owns his own home at 819 East Budlong street.
__________

By 1962, he is a resident at Joplin, Missouri on route 4 box 340 and working as a pharmacist at Parkway Pharmacy. His Texas death certificate indicated he died in Houston, Texas at Methodist Hospital where he had been a patient four weeks. While a patient there he suffered a heart attack and passed away at age 69.
He was removed to Joplin and laid to rest at Ozark Memorial Cemetery.
He was the son of Daniel Curlee and Willie Wilkerson. (bio NJBrewer)
