Author. A noted writer on famous personalities, he wrote biographies on the likes of Roman Polanski, John Steinbeck, Sir Laurence Olivier, Yasser Arafat, and Rupert Murdoch, among many others. A native of Jersey City, New Jersey, he graduated from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, and then served in the Army from 1956 to 1958. He was also an editor for the Philosophical Library in New York before becoming an author. In 1976 He was awarded the Anisfield Wolf Award for his work, "The Arabs," a comprehensive study of the Arab world. Kiernan also wrote on other subjects including, golf, horse racing, baseball, and philosophy.
