Some information from the Chandler family states that, during the Civil War, Sterling was wounded at Chancellorsville, Virginia on May 3, 1863. He was eventually returned to Georgia. He died in Kingston, Georgia. Information obtained from John Holliday: Confederate records state that Sterling was born May 10, 1834. This conflicts with his age listed in the 1850 and the 1860 censuses and also conflicts with the birth order given in both censuses. The year 1836 indicated by both censuses seem more likely.
