Artist. He was an influential artist noted for his expressionist abstract style of drip painting. In 1930, he moved to New York City, New York to study at the Art Students League and soon was sharing his unique abstract style art with many other artists. His new modern technique of working with paint created an abstract art expression movement and he became the major artist of his generation. He received commissions to create large murals in America, Europe, plus his work was in art exhibits and galleries. At the peak of his fame in the early 1950s, he abruptly abandoned the drip style and focused on bounding shapes or figures with heavily textured surfaces. His pictures had more conventional titles, and his last two paintings “Scent” and “Search”, were painted in 1955. He died at age 44 in a single car accident near Springs, New York.
