Elisha was the son of Elisha Belden. Elisha was a lifelong resident of Wethersfield.

Elisha was born there on 2 September 1796; and died there on 1 December 1874 aged 79 years, 2 months, and 30 days [Wethersfield VR, Vol. 2, p. 96a].

Elisha was married, first, at Wethersfield on 9 August 1821, to Mary JOHNSON, by William BENTLEY, Minister of the Gospel of Christ [Wethersfield VR, Marr., Vol. 2, p. 214].

Mary died young at the age of 28.

Elisha was married, second, at Wethersfield on 28 September 1837, to Joanna SIKES, by Rev. C. J. TENNEY [Wethersfield VR, Marr., Vol. 3, p. 82].

Elisha, a shoemaker, Joanna, and Franklin resided there where they were enumerated in the 1850 and 1860 U.S. Censuses. In 1860, Elisha gave his occupation as a farmer.

Elisha, retired, was enumerated there in the 1870 U.S. Census with Charles D. and Emma PAYNE.

Gravesite Details

The Wethersfield Historical Soc. recently photographed all the graves in the cemetery and there is none for Elisha. The colonial town of Wethersfield was later divided into the Towns of Rocky Hill, Newington and Glastonbury.
