ERNEST NELSON HAMPTON, SR.

Ernest N. Hampton, Sr. of Irondale, Missouri was born Tuesday, January 31, 1928 in Wortham, Missouri a son of the late Hazel (Bainter) Hampton and Elmer Hampton. Ernest died suddenly Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at the Washington County Memorial Hospital at the age of 76 years and 11 days.

Ernest was united in marriage to Wilma June Horton November 13, 1945 in Desloge, Missouri.

Ernest is survived by his loving and devoted wife of Fifty-Eight years, Wilma June Hampton of Irondale, Missouri; Two Daughters, Becky Turner of Irondale, Missouri and Medina Hickman of Irondale, Missouri; Four Sons, Ronnie Hampton and wife Karen of Bonne Terre, Missouri, Kevin Hampton and wife Debbie of Davisville, Missouri, Randy Hampton and wife Sherry of Irondale, Missouri and Tony Hampton and wife Brenda of Gumbo, Missouri; Four Sisters, Ruby Bradley of Park Hills, Missouri, Edith Pitts of Irondale, Missouri, Georgia Lee Hall of Wortham, Missouri and Ruth Gettinger and husband Firman of Potosi, Missouri; Two Brothers, Shelby Hampton and wife Henrietta of Belgrade, Missouri and Raymond Hampton and wife Anita of Irondale, Missouri; 27 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; Daughter-in-law, Pam Hampton of Caledonia, Missouri and by many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Ernest was also preceded in death by One Son, Ernest Hampton, Jr.; One Grandson Ryan Hampton; One Great Grandchild, Bailey Coleman; Four Brothers, Elmer Hampton, Delmer Hampton, Vernal Hampton and Ronald Hampton.

Ernest had accepted Christ as his savior and was a Charter member of the Irondale Church of God. Ernest served this great country in the United States Army, he was inducted October 9, 1947 at Fort Riley, Kansas and received an Honorable discharge October 8, 1951. Ernest was decorated with the Occupation Medal for Japan and the Korean Service Medal with Three Bronze Campaign Stars. He had served in the U.S. Army Dental Detachment, 5017 ASU, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Ernest was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2426, Desloge, Missouri. Ernest enjoyed playing his guitar and singing in church and playing softball with his church team. Win or Lose they always had a great time. During the Mid 1970's Ernest and his wife, June had a Gospel Singing Radio Show. He had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed going camping and fishing with his family and friends.

A Wake was held at the Family Home Friday, February 13, 2004 starting at 2:00 PM and Saturday, February 14, 2004 until 1:45 PM. Family and friends enjoyed the memories, kind words, heartfelt prayers and time everyone gave at the home. Funeral Services were held Saturday, February 14, 2004 at the Irondale First Church of God, Irondale, Missouri with Pastor Cleo Counts and Brother Davey Welker officiating. Music was provided by Allen Gray, Lorraine Blankenship and Judy Stallins. Music Sang was "I Saw The Light", I Will Not be a Stranger", "Where No One Sands Alone" and "Go Rest High on That Mountain." Final Prayers and Burial was in the Hampton Family Cemetery, Irondale, Missouri. Serving as Pallbearers were Ernest "Wezzer" Hampton lll, Chuck Hampton, Alan Hickman, Jr., Cody Hickman, Kevin Hampton, Jr., Nathan Hampton, Rusty Davis, Carl Davis and Paul Turner. Full Military Honors were given including a Twenty-one Gun Salute, Taps and presentation of the United States Flag by the Washington County VFW Post 6996, Potosi, Missouri. All arrangements were Entrusted to the Care and Direction of the Moore Funeral Home, 104 Oak Street, Irondale, Missouri.
