Social Reformer, Civil Rights Activist, Businesswoman. She was one of the most active abolitionists in the pre-Civil War United States, and was a major operator on the Underground Railroad. After arriving in California in 1852, she rose in business to amass a multi-million dollar fortune. Her 1866 lawsuit ended segregation on public transportation in San Francisco, California.
