Gary Mantas passed away December 21, 2011. He was born May 23, 1940 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Thomas Andrew and Annie Marie Severson Mantas. He married Carolyn Sharp on April 3, 1959, and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple; they later divorced. He then married Ada Elizabeth Carlson.
Gary was a truck driver for 40 years and retired from Pride Transportation after 30 years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the scouting program for many years. His greatest love was his family and especially his grandchildren. He loved old westerns, karaoke, and the Utah Jazz. He and his wife, Ada, were Santa's helpers. He is greatly loved and will be missed by his loving family.
Survived by his wife, Ada; children, Ronald (Tammy), Robert (Robyn) Rochelle (Ron) Ludlow, Darin (Christina), Kimberly (Doug) Johnson; step-children, John Samora and Ralph Samora; 31 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Loann (Fred) Peterson and Sharon (Jim) Flohr. Preceded in death by his parents; as well as his sister, Carolene.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 12 Noon at the Crescent 29th LDS Ward, 10600 South 1050 East. Family and friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Street, and Tuesday prior to services at the church from 11-11:45 a.m. Interment: Murray City Cemetery.
