Her late husband Ransom Marshall Houck was the owner of Lenoir Ice and Fuel Company.
According to her obituary in the 11 November 1960 issue of the Lenoir News Topic, Martha Palmer moved to North Wilkesboro after the death of her mother to live with a sister, Mrs. W. A. Sydnor. That is where she met Marshall Houck. The Houcks moved to Lenoir in the late 1920's. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1956.
Her body was taken from the funeral home to her house for viewing. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church with the Rev. Herman Duncan officiating.
