Conrad Young 1736 -1834

Move to America

In June of 1736, Matheus and Anna Margaretta Jung had their first child. This child was a boy and they named him after the father of Anna Margaretta, Conrad! He was christened on June 20, 1736 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Conrad was the first of eight children.

Conrad married on October 28, 1755 to Anna Margareta Franciscus. His wife was born in 1732. They had three children. The first was born January 17, 1757 and named Johannes Jung. However, he died on February 25, 1757 after only one month.

The following year their second child was born, on April 11, 1758. He too died within a year of his birth. They named him Johan Jacob Jung. On August 22, 1760 their third child was born and they named him Johannes Jung. He was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

A little less than two years later a storm arose. There was vicious lightning with this storm. The date was July 24, 1762. Anna Margaretta was rocking in a chair with her son Johannes in her arms when the lightning struck and traveled down the chimney. It struck Anna and killed her instantly!

Her young son was left unhurt. Conrad was now without his wife and had his young son to care for. About two years later he married Margaret Hayes. Between 1764 and 1770 they apparently packed up and moved to Virginia. In 1770 they had a child which they named Mathias Geyhart Young. He was born in Greenbrier Co. VA.

Shortly after Mathias was born, Conrad and his wife and child were crossing a river when Margaret's horse fell dumping his wife into the river. Conrad rode to the bank and laid his young child down on the bank of the river, and returned to assist his wife. She however, had drowned!

Conrad married again in about 1771. His new wife was named Elizabeth Wood. They had a daughter in 1772. This child was born in Botetourt Co. Virginia. In 1774, during March, Elizabeth again gave birth this time a boy and they named him Charles Francis Young!

Henry was born in 1778 then William in 1786. They youngest was born in 1788 and they named him George E. Young.

Conrad died in 1834 and was buried in what is now Sand Run Cemetery in Clendenin, West Virginia.
