William Smith Mitchell and Dorotha Dugan were married Dec. 23,1852.

William and Dorotha were the parents of a daughter, Mary J. Mitchell, born 1853 in Shelby, IN. Mary married James William Sosbe on Dec 24, 1873. Mary (Mitchell) Sosbe passed away June 5, 1889 at Tipton Indiana.

William and Dorotha, while living at Addison, Shelby Co. Indiana were also parents of a daughter, Sarah J. Mitchell born in 1857 and died in 1870 at age 13. No cemetery records found as yet.

Census records indicate that William Mitchell later married Hannah Laura (Lawhorn) Black on Dec. 25th 1883 in Tipton County Indiana (This was a 2nd marriage for both William and Laura)

Military headstone supplied by Indiana Infantry, Co. "B", 70th Regiment. William Smith Mitchell enlisted in the Union Army on 19 July 1862. Mustered out 8 June 1865 at Washington, DC.
