Pittsburgh, Pa., June 1, 1882, Margaret A. Sarver; children: William E., Jr., Kent S., Martha M. Began business life at Pittsburgh with his father in 1877, and in 1880, when the business of James B. Clow & Sons was established in Chicago, became a mem. Of the firm, a leader among manufacturers plumbing and sanitary supplies, and upon the subsequent incorporation of the company was elected vice-pres. W E Clow Sr Dies at Home Near Chicago
W E Clow Sr, who rose from a telegrapher to one of the national leading manufacturers, died last evening at his Lake Forest near Chicago. Death was attributed to resulting from a fractured hip suffered at his horne Wednesday. He had been in failing health for several years.

His career paralleled that of the late Andrew Carnegie. He was... the son of Captain and Mrs James B Clow. At the age of 18 he became a telegraph operator and a few years later was engaged as agent. It was during this period he traveled the mid-western states supplying his client with materials that he noted a scarcity of cast iron manufacturers. Meanwhile his father, a Civil war veteran, had helped in the establishment of a Pittsburgh firm engaged in the manufacture of steel, the Clow, Dalzelle Evans firm In 1877.
Capt Clow moved to Chicago and with his son organized the firm of James B Clow and Sons and became sales agent for several pipe producing firms The firm's first venture in the manufacture of pipe in New Philadelphia came to an abrupt end when the factory burned to the ground in 1895. William and his father then built a plant at Newcomerstown, one that for years was considered a model manufacturing unit.
James B Clow continued as head of the firm until his death in 1908 when he was succeeded by William. At the suggestion of businessmen the firm Decided to build the Coshocton plant in 1908. Production was started in March 1910.,,,
