Alma Petersen LeGeyt Necker, 93, of Simsbury, died Saturday, (September 17, 2011). Widow of Alexander E. Necker, Sr., they were married March 29, 1943 in Simsbury.

Alma was born November 13, 1917 in Avon, daughter of the late Clarence and Pauline (Petersen) LeGeyt. In the early years Alma worked at Ethel Walker School, then gained employment at Ensign-Bickford, Co. where she met her husband.

After raising her family, Alma spent her longest period of employment at Cliffside Country Club. Alma and Alexander opened Necker's Garden Center in 1948. The business evolved from garden center to hardware store to toys and bikes to its present, still family owned, Necker's Toyland.

A large part of Alma's life was dedicated to the West Simsbury Grange where she was an active member of over 50 years. She was also involved with the State and Pomona Granges. This time of year was one of her favorites as she worked at the Grange Building at the Big E. She served the grange as Treasurer, Chaplain and Master.

While raising her family she taught Sunday School at the First Church of Christ in Simsbury, was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, started a 4-H Club and was always at the annual 4-H Fair. Later she was active in the 4-H Apple Orchard at Auerbach Farm. Alma enjoyed driving her car, flowers - her favorites being peonies and roses, and playing setback. She organized and participated in as many card parties as possible. The most important thing in her life was her family.

She leaves her sons, Alexander Necker, Jr. of Indianapolis, IN, and William Necker of New Tripoli, PA, daughters, Deborah Necker and her partner Bill Pascucci of Bloomfield, and Audrey White and her husband Frank of Suffield; her grandchildren, Miller White and his wife Donna of Southwick, MA, Joshua White of Suffield, Samuel Clark of Southwick, MA, Maxwell Clark of East Hartland, Grey Clark and his wife Jessica of New Britain, Dawn Janssen and her husband Eric of California, Shawn Necker, and Jason Necker; great-grandchildren, Quint White of Suffield, Ely White of Southwick, MA and Emma Janssen of California; her step daughter, Marilyn Frank of Granby; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by ten of her siblings and leaves her sister, Henrietta Nicholson of Florida. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dottie and Dorothy from MeadowBrook of Granby. Also to Vitas Hospice for their special care and kindness to our mother.
