Sarah's father died when she was two, so her care was left to her mother, Elizabeth "Betsey", and her sister, Jane. As her mother never remarried, Sarah never knew a father.

Sarah married David Hoover Bulla on January 16, 1834 in Wayne County, Indiana. She was raised in Richmond, so it was most likely in that town. It appears she married when she was 19 and had a child within the year--Anna Marie Bulla (b 1 Jul 1834, d 5 Oct 1858).*

After four years of the marriage, Sarah died. As she already had one child at such a young age, she may have died due to pregnancy or childbirth complications. Whatever the cause of death, Sarah had a wealth of experience by the time she left life at twenty-four.

*Ann Bullah is listed on the 1850's Census as living with Elizabeth, Jane and Emeline Cox. It may be that Ann went to live with her maternal grandmother after the death of her mother. As the 1840's Census didn't list the occupants of the home, it is unknown whether Ann lived with anyone else before this time. Following in the steps of her mother, Ann Bulla married Andrew Hoover McLane and died before the 1860's Census was taken.
