Lewis W. Allen, Sr., 88, former member of the New Albany City Council, and identified of many years with pharmaceutical concerns of the Falls Cities, died at 4:45 a.m. yesterday in St. Edward's Hospital. He suffered a fracture of the hip Monday at his home, 809 Pearl. A native of New Albany, Allen, who was a pharmacist there 20 years, retired in 1937. He served his apprenticeship at the Peter-Neat-Richardson Company, Louisville, and later was associated with the Robinson-Petit Company, New Albany. He joined the J. H. Conner Drug Company, New Albany, in 1917. Was a Methodist and Mason. Allen was a member of Wesley Chapel Methodist and Jefferson Lodge of Masons. Surviving are sons, Lewis W. Allen, Jr., New Albany, and Charles Miner Allen, San Diego, Calif.; daughters, Mrs. Maude L. Moody, Mrs. Julia T. Luther, and Mrs. Helen R. Bence, New Albany; sister, Mrs. Grace Ratcliff, New Albany; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
