Lt. Col. Charles Ellis Harrison, USAF, Retired, 65, of Austin, Texas, died Sunday, January 28, 1990. He was born in Laurel, Mississippi, November 2, 1924 and graduated from Canton High School, Canton, Mississippi. He attended Slippery Rock College in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. In 1942, he enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corp. and served with distinction as a bomber pilot in World War II, the Korean Conflict and in Vietnam. He served as a member of the U. S. NATO Command in West Germany from 1960-1963.

He developed and managed one of the foremost Emergency Operation Centers in the U.S. for the City of Austin, Texas. He was highly respected for his efforts in assisting the Cities of Dallas, Denton, Corpus Christi, Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Oklahoma City in the development of their Emergency Preparedness Centers and the training of the operating personnel.

A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, Lamar Location. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at St. Mary's Cathedral with Reverend Peter Logsdon, OMI officiating. Interment will be in Assumption Cemetery.

The following is taken from a newspaper article in the Jackson Daily News, Jackson, Mississippi: CANTON MAN GETS SILVER CROSS. The son of a Canton couple has been awarded the Gallantry Cross with Silver Star by the Government of South Vietnam. Lt. Col. Charles E. Harrison . . . was honored for his performance in an excellent manner during the battle at Duc Lap, Quant Duc Province, during the period 23 August to 14 September 1968. The citation reads that LTC Harrison is a courageous officer who always demonstrated close coordination between the Vietnamese and the United States forces.
