Ray K. Painter, age 80, of Ozark, passed away Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at Christian Health Care East, Springfield.

Ray was born Dec. 16, 1923, to Jake and Stella (McDaniel) Painter. He was a descendant of the Jacob Painter family that came to Springfield in 1831.

He graduated from Nixa High School in 1943. He was a charter member of James River Chapel Church of Christ in Nixa. Ray worked for O'Riley General Hospital during World War II. He was trained as a dental laboratory technician by A.R. Herman, and worked for numerous dentists, including Dr. Victor Wood, Nixa, Dr. Billy Rozell and Dr. Kerwin Russell of Ozark. He served on the board of the Ozark Senior Center and was president when they moved into their building just off the square. He also delivered meals-on-wheels for ten years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Norma Inman; and two brothers, Claud Raymond and Leslie.

Survivors include a dear friend, Helen Salzman and her children, Garon, Nanette and Renee; his sister, Marcia Haworth and husband Bill; and nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in McConnell Cemetery, Nixa, with Dr. Kerwin Russell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark.

Donations may be made to the Ozark Senior Center.
