Stanley LaVon Gibson, 43, of Las Vegas, passed away Dec. 12, 2011. A lifelong Las Vegas resident, he was born Jan. 4, 1968. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the 1991 Gulf War in Iraq and Saudi Arabia where he served as a cook with the 327th Infantry Regiment. He is survived by his wife, Rondha Gibson of Las Vegas; mother, Celeste Gibson; sisters, Linda Young and Mindy Hinkle; brother, Rudolph Elliot Gibson, all of Las Vegas; stepdaughters, Karin Mohlke of Batesville, Ark., and Kathleen Spurlock, of Fayetteville, Ark.; and granddaughter, Grace "Bird" Mohlke, of Batesville. Visitation will be 1-6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 22, at Thomas and Jones Funeral Home, 310 Foremaster Lane, Las Vegas. Funeral service, with Pastor Gordy McDonald presiding, will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 23, at Friendship Church of God in Christ Church, 2249 W. Washington Ave., Las Vegas. Burial with full military honors will follow at 1:20 p.m., at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the Stanley L. Gibson Trust at any Chase Bank.
