Master Public Safety Officer Scott Richardson died at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital from wounds he received when shot during a traffic stop at the entrance of Pace's Run apartments on Brandt Court in the City of Aiken.

He was a son of Richard K. and Patsy Randall Richardson. He grew up in Aiken and was a graduate of South Aiken High and the University of South Carolina Aiken. Master PSO Richardson began his career with Aiken Public Safety on September 27, 1999 as a Cadet and worked his way to a Driver Operator position and then became a Public Safety Officer on February 14, 2005. He was a member of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Association.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Amelyn Sorell Richardson; three sons, Zander age 5, Chase age 4 and Maddox age 16 months; his parents, Richard and Pat Richardson of Aiken; his brother, Ken (Cathy) Richardson of Aiken; his paternal grandmother, Pauline Richardson of Kennwick, WA; a sister-in-law, Sharon Werger of Port Charlotte, FL; two uncles, Bobby (Mary) Richardson of Aiken, Jimmy (Connie) Richardson of Aiken; four aunts: Sandra Richardson of Kennwick, WA; Betty Owen (Gerald) of Aiken, Lila Ruth Harley of Aiken and Catherine Queen of Youngstown, OH; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at the University of South Carolina Aiken Convocation Center. Interment followed in Historic Bethany Cemetery.
