George, the son of Lawrence Hilton, who resided in Minquadale, Delaware, served as a Staff Sergeant with the Cannon Company, 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1at Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He was "Killed In Action" at Ferme Cantne, Algeria during the Oran defensive while directing the fire of a 105 mm Howitzer.

He had served in the Army for fifteen years and was decorated with a Silver Star and Purple Heart.
