Sarah Kochendorder and her parents were killed by Indians on August 18, 1862, the first day of the Dakota uprising. During the attack, Sarah's brother and three sisters hid in some brush, and later escaped to Ft. Ridgely with the help of some neighbors. The remains of Sarah and her parents were originally buried in an unmarked grave on their claim in the northeast corner of the southeast quarter of section 33, Flora Township, in Renville County, MN. In 1891, the remains were found on the farmsite, then owned by Henry Timms, and were reburied at Oakland Cemetery.
