Lorraine Bouma, 84, Edgerton, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011 at Edgebrook after a 3 ½ year battle with bone cancer.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 19 at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Edgerton, with pastor Randy Raak officiating.

Pallbearers were Brett Trathen, Jordan Trathen, Nathan Trathen, Seth Ver Mulm, Micah Siebert and Steve Zeilstra.

Interment was in Hillside Cemetery, Edgerton.

Lorraine June Bouma was born to Rev. Albert and Petronella (Blom) Jabaay on June 8, 1927 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She attended Zeeland Christian School in Zeeland, Mich., through the eighth grade, Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa and for her senior year, she attended Chicago Christian High School. After her high school graduation in June 1945, she joined the Nurse's Cadet Corps and went three years to Little Company of Mary Nursing Program in Evergreen Park, Ill., and DePaul University and graduated with a B.S. degree in Nursing.

She married James Bouma on Aug. 5, 1949. As he was still in the Navy, she went with him to different shore stations leading to her employment in various states including Illinois, Virginia and New York. They moved to Edgerton from Chicago in 1965. She worked as a nurse for Dr. Boyd in Pipestone, until he retired, then worked and retired from nursing at Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton.

On Dec. 28, 2009 she became a resident of Edgebrook Care Center.

Her husband preceded her in death on June 13, 2010.

She was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton where she was involved in the Gleaners Bible Study. She was also an active community member involved in the American Legion Auxiliary in Edgerton. For 13 years she was the coordinator for Meals on Wheels in Edgerton. She volunteered for the Edgerton Christian School, Mothers Club, the Southwest Christian High School circles, and the Union Gospel Mission in Sioux Falls, S.D.

She is survived by her two daughters, Pat (Robert) Trathen, Grand Rapids, Mich. and Becky (Fritz) Polite, Knoxville, Tenn.; two sons, Jim Bouma, Jr., Buena Vista, Colo., and Tom (Arla) Bouma, Edgerton; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Verna (Don) Zeilstra, Grand Rapids, Mich., and one brother, Dr. Gerald (Alyce) Jabaay, Wheaton, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her husband.
