Rounsevell Mortuary records of Lead note that John Middleton died at the family residence at 301 ½ West Main Street in Lead, South Dakota on November 27, 1926 from myocarditis; certifying physician – Dr. R.B. Fleeger; age – 73 years 7 months 14 days; married; occupation – retired metal moulder; born April 13, 1853 in Millford, Pennsylvania; father – Alexander Middleton (born Scotland); mother – Isabel Robertson (born Scotland); funeral at the parlors at 2:00 p.m. on December 2, 1926 with Mrs. W.J. Clark of the Christian Science Church officiating; burial in the Municipal Cemetery in South Lead; charge to Mrs. Eva Middleton; burial permit attached to original mortuary record.

JOHN MIDDLETON DIES AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS
Was Homestake Veteran and Old Timer of Lead
John Middleton, 73, resident of Lead since 1885, died at his home in the Faust block this morning about 8:30 o'clock, after a brief illness.
Only surviving relatives are his wife and a son, Dave, of San Francisco. lThe son is expected to arrive here next Tuesday, but funeral arrangements are being held up pending further word from him.
John Middleton was born April 13, 1853, in Pennsylvania. Shortly afterward the family moved to New York City where he was reared. He and Mrs. Middleton were married in the east and came to Lead in 1885. Was first employed by the Homestake in 1886. From that time on until July 1, 1925, when he was pensioned, he continued to be in the employ of the mining company here.
He was a member of the Homestake Veterans and had hosts of friends among the old timers in and around Lead.
Arrangements for the funeral services will be announced later.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR JOHN MIDDLETON THURSDAY
Funeral services for John Middleton, whose death came Saturday morning after a short illness, will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Rounsevell undertaking parlors. Dave Middleton, the only surviving son, and his wife arrived this afternoon from San Francisco.
The Homestake Veterans, of which John Middleton was a member, will attend the services in a body. The pall bearers will be: George Morthland, William Lang, W.E. Royce, Dan Walsh, W.K. Searle, and William McPHeeley.
Mrs. W.J. Clark will read the Christian Science service.
Burial will be in South Lead cemetery beside a son who died many years ago.
