He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was assigned duty throughout the European and African theaters. Retiring in 1957 after 27 years, he attained the rank of lieutenant colonel. He enjoyed fishing and reading.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Camp Wiard, in 1974; a daughter, Virginia Wiard; and a brother, Uriah Wiard.
Survivors include three daughters, Lucille Blum of Clarendon, Irene Wormer of State College and Patricia Crossley of Tiona; seven grandchildren.
