William Hamilton Demuth was born on February 28, 1866, in Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland, the son of Josiah Damuth and Mary Ann Freeze. He married in Lucas County, Ohio, on December 26, 1889, to Ida Aurelia Skillman, daughter of Henry Harrison Lafayette Skillman. They were the parents of a daughter, Wilma Demuth.
