DR. MUNN IS STRICKEN AT HOSPITAL
POPULAR MEMBER OF CENTRE FACULTY DIES AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS
FUNERAL IS FRIDAY
Dr. Burrus Munn, Associate Professor of Economics and Sociology at Centre College since 1931, died at the Danville Hospital this morning at 8:20 after a short illness.
Mr. Munn was born at Columbus, Georgia, March 3, 1891. On July 10, 1918 he married Mrs. Vernon Lewis Crawford. He was the son of Mollie Burrus, still living, and Robert King Munn, deceased, and was one of four children, a younger brother who died during the War and two sisters that survive him, Mrs. Charles Heipley, of Zanesville, Ohio, and Mrs. Ben Wardlaw, of Columbus, Georgia. He has one daughter, Miss Mary Munn, who is a student at Randolph-Macon Woman s College. Mrs. Richard Caywood, of North Middletown, is his step-daughter.
Mr. Munn was Superintendent of and Instructor in schools of Burke, Harris, and Muscogee Counties, Georgia, before coming to Centre College in 1928 as business manager of the College. After serving in this capacity for three years he became a member of the faculty. He deceived his A.B. Degree From Tulane University and his A.M. from the University of Michigan. He studied law at the University of Georgia and was a member of the Georgia Bar.
Mr. Munn was an active member of the Methodist Church of Danville and a leader in the Kiwanis Club.
He was also a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and was interested in civic affairs. Dr. Munn was an active member and, past president of the Danville Kiwanis Club and also served for a term as chairman of the Boyle County Chapter of the American Red Cross. For the past two seasons he has been president of the Danville Softball League, recently being re-elected at an organization meeting.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon from the Centenary Methodist Church where he taught a Sunday School class for five years. Dr. F. M. Tinder of North Middleton, will officiate, assisted by Dr. W. P. Fryman, pastor. Interment will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Bearers will be: Dr. James H. Hewlett, acting president of Centre College; Dr. C. E. Allen, Dr. A. E. Porter, Dr. R. I. Rush of the faculty of the college, J. Rice Mountjoy and Judge Jay W. Harlan.

BURRUS MUNN, member of the Centre College faculty, who died at the local hospital this morning, following an operation last-week, was one of the most popular citizens of the community. His smiling face and genial personality won for him many friends, who will greatly miss him. To know him was to love him. He was also one of the most versatile Instructors in Centre College and filled a number of positions, from business manager of the college and coach o f basketball to associate professor of economics and sociology, the position he held at the time of this death. No one was held in higher esteem than Mr. Munn the college and community will keenly feel the loss of a man whose place will be difficult to fill.

MUNN SERVICES HELD HERE TODAY
CENTRE PROFESSOR'S FUNERAL RITES CONDUCTED AT THE METHODIST CHURCH
Funeral services for Burrus Munn, 47, associate professor of economics and sociology at Centre College since 1931, who died at the Danville and Boyle county hospital at 8:20 o'clock Thursday morning were held at the Methodist church at 3 o'clock this afternoon, conducted by Dr. W. P. Fryman and the Rev. F. M. Tindel, North Middletown. Burial followed in Bellevue cemetery.
Professor Munn underwent an emergency abdominal operation last week and seemed to be improving until Tuesday night when he became worse. Pallbearers were Dr. James H. Hewlett, acting president of the college; Dr. A. E. Porter, dean of men at Centre; Dr. C. E. Allen and Dr. R. I. Rush, of the Centre College faculty; J. Rice Mountjoy, athletic director at Danville high school and Jay W. Harlan, Danville attorney.
Survivors of Mr. Munn are his wife, a daughter, Mary Munn, student at Randolph-Macon Women's College, Lynchburg, Va.; a stepdaughter, Mrs.. Richard Caywood, North Middletown, Ky.; his mother, Mrs. Robert King Munn, Columbus, Ga.; and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Heipley, Zanesville, Ohio, and Mrs. Ben Wardlow, Columbus, Ga.
