Elwood L. Nelson, 89, of Springfield, died Wednesday, December 24, 2003 in his residence at the Ohio Masonic Home. He was born in Springfield on January 30, 1914, the son of William R. and Ella (Millard) Nelson.
Elwood retired from the Robbins and Myers Crane Division as the Order Manager.
He was a member of Central United Methodist Church; attended Wittenberg University; a sixty-year member and Past Master of Anthony Lodge 455 Free and Accepted Masons; Shawnee Chapter 237, Springfield Council 17, Palestine Commandery 33, Ohio Priory 18, Past Right Eminent Grand Commander, Grand Commandery, Knights Templar of Ohio, Antioch Temple and many other affiliated Masonic bodies.
Elwood was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eloise M. Nelson on January 30, 1998; two brothers, William (Bill) and Wilbur (Mike) Nelson; two sisters, Nora Nelson and Nellie Miller.
He leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter and son-in-law, Janice K. and William L. Harris, of Springfield; one son and daughter-in-law, Barton and Jacqueline Nelson, of North Augusta, South Carolina; one sister, Audrey Graham of Balboa Island, California; four grandchildren, Brad and Susan Smith, Jenny Smith, Holly Nelson and Zachary Nelson; two great-grandchildren, Marisa and Christian.
Services will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the Richards, Raff & Dunbar Memorial Home with Rev. Keith Rhoden, Chaplain of the Ohio Masonic Home, officiating. Friends and family may call Sunday from 3-7 p.m. in the funeral home with Masonic services beginning at 6:30 p.m. Interment in Ferncliff Cemetery.
