Fatal Fire Laid To Cigaret
A fire which killed a 32-year-old North St. Paul man in his home about 10:55 p. m. Saturday was caused by cigaret, George Hilpisch, North St. Paul fire chief, said Sunday.
Shirley H. Grant, 2445 E. Fourteenth Ave., was dead on arrival at St. John's hospital of burns suffered in the fire in the bedroom of his home. Hilpisch said Grant apparently had been smoking in bed.
Grant was home alone. The fire was discovered by Mrs. Grant when she returned to the one-story dwelling.
The fire was confined to the bedroom. Hilpisch estimated damage between $250 and $500.
Grant, who was employed by Minneapolis Honeywell, was the father of one son, Michael, 15, and one daughter, Velva, 9.
