MADISON — Mary E. Abel, age 73, of Madison died on Wednesday, March 3, 1993 at a local nursing home. She was born on January 15, 1920 in Youngstown, Ohio. She was the daughter of Frederick and Mabel (Blankenhorn) Quigley. She married Paul Kramer Abel on April 25, 1945 in Sharon, Pennsylvania. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing and Health in 1943. While her husband attended the Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, she was in charge of the nursery at Evanston University Hospital. Upon his ordination as an Episcopal Priest, they lived in Waterford, PA, Sycamore, IL, Fort Hayes, KS, Palm Beach and Ocala, FL, where he served parishes. His last assignment was St. Francis House on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. While in Madison, Mrs. Abel worked at Meriter Park Hospital in the In-Service Training Department. She also taught in the Nursing Program at Madison Area Technical College, retiring in 1985. She was a member of St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church in Madison. Survivors include a son, Karl (Amy) of Nekoosa, Wisconsin; a daughter, Kristina (Ron) Bollard of Dodgeville; five grandchildren; two step-granddaughters; a brother, John Quigley of Morehead City, NC; a sister, Catherine (Robert) Burn of Farmington, CT; a brother-in-law, David (Virginia) Abel; and a sister-in-law, Lee Quigley, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Fred Quigley. A requiem mass will be held on Saturday, March 6, 1993 at 3:00 p.m. in ST. DUNSTAN'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 6205 University Avenue, Madison. The Reverend Duff Green and Reverend Susan Mueller will officiate. Burial will be In the SUNSET MEMORY GARDENS CEMETERY. Friends are asked to call at the church on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Dunstan's Church Building Fund, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of choice. The FITCHLAWRENCE-SANFILLIPPO FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family with the arrangements.
