Ruben Ira Owen was born June 20, 1879 in Boone County, Arkansas to Richard Carol Owen and Arletha C. Stephens. Age the age of 6, he moved with his parents to near Avalon in Ellis County, Texas. He married Julia Vida Burke January 15, 1905 in Navarro County, Texas. By 1920 he had moved to Wichata Falls where he became employed in the oil field business. They had three sons Jesse Carol, Rufus Ira (who died at the age of 17 in an oil field accident), Cecil Coy (who died at birth) and one daughter Mary Letha Walker.
Ira and Vida moved to Corsicana after 1935 where he worked as a driller in the new oilfields between there and Mexia.
Vida died from breast cancer in Dallas, Texas in 1953 and is buried in Elm Branch Cemetery in Ellis County.
