Joseph Baker was born in Tisbury, MA on Martha's Vineyard in 1744 a son of Thomas and __??__ Baker. He married Dorcas Smith in Tisbury in 1769 and soon after they moved to Readfield (then part of Winthrop), Maine. They lived in Readfield, at the north end of Lake Maranacook, 1770 until about 1783 at which time they moved on to Moscow, Maine where they were the first settlers. Baker Mountain in Moscow is named after him - though the one that is currently called Baker is slightly east of the original. There are many morsels about Joseph Baker that are too numerous to record here. His life was an interesting one that makes for good reading!
