Paul S Clay was born in North Carolina, but lived most of his life in South Hampton Roads, having grown up in the household of his maternal aunt and uncle, Ethel and Claiborne Hodges, in South Norfolk. Paul was a carpenter by trade. He married the love of his life, Linda Gay Johnson, in June 1962; they had two daughters. Paul died as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident caused by severe weather related to Hurricane Irene. His wife, Linda, died a month later from injuries sustained in the same accident. Her ashes were scattered in the mountains they loved. Paul and Linda were the kindest and most loving people I have ever known.
