Tross Pierson

VERGENNES -- Tross A. Pierson, 80, passed away at 11:06 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, in St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.

Tross was born Sept. 21, 1931, in Jackson County, the son of Joseph L. and Maudie Herring Pierson.

He married Evelyn Michels on June 16, 1951, in Vergennes, and they shared 60 years of marriage.

Tross was retired from Natural Gas and Pipeline Company after 35 years and Carbondale Mosquito Abatement after 20 years.

He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Vergennes. He also was a member of Vergennes Volunteer Fire Department and a former member of Jackson County Board for 17 years. And, he was Vergennes Township Democratic prescient committeeman.

In younger years, Tross enjoyed hunting arrowheads. He loved going to church and spending time with his family. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He also loved hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all.

Tross is survived by his wife and mother of his four children, Evelyn Pierson of Vergennes; three daughters, Janet (Denny) Garner of Vergennes, Charlotte (John) McLaughlin of Murphysboro and Barbara (Matt) Mason of Vergennes; one son, Tross A. (Molly) Pierson Jr. of Vergennes; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two sisters, Geraldine Reiman and Dorothy (Glenn) Bryant, both of Murphysboro; four sisters-in-law, Fairy Hawk of Olney, Pansy Michels of Elizabethtown, Ky., and Elsie Steele and Mary Pierson, both of Murphysboro; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Norman, Randle and Donald.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, in Faith United Methodist Church in Vergennes, with the Revs. Angie Baughman and Paul Brown officiating. Burial will be in Parrish Cemetery in Vergennes. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

The preferred form of remembrance is contributions to Faith United Methodist Church.

Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava is in charge of arrangements.
