John Edwards was born in Wales about 1821. He immigrated to Raccoon, OH by the 1850 census with his wife, Ann Morris. He was a carpenter in OH and continued this occupation in Albia according to the 1850 and 1860 censuses. John and his son Moses, established a mill at Albia in 1867 which was kept busy until its destruction by fire in 1878. It was patronized by farmers within a radius of 50 miles. A second structure, built immediately to replace the first one, burned in 1886. The third Edwards mill, constructed in the same year, was in use at this writing (1940). They moved to Albia before the 1860 census was taken, and John lived there until he died.
