Sylvanus was 1 of 6 children born to George Oakes & his 1st wife, Lydia (Eager).

Sylvanus married Abigail (Ball) on Nov. 25, 1771 in Rutland, Massachusetts Colony.

***Amos Stewart was 1st married to Margaret Oakes. He married his 2nd wife, Lydia (Shattuck) Babcock, on 01/03/1855 in Colrain, MA. This Lydia Shattuck's mother was
Lydia (Oakes) Shattuck, a sister to Margaret Oakes {both daughters of Sylvanus & Abigail (Ball) Oakes}. So Amos's 1st wife, Margaret, was the aunt of his 2nd wife, Lydia.

In 1771 George purchased a "fulling mill" & "clothier's shop" in Princeton, MA from Nathaniel Waite for 160 pounds.
After the war he sold out his Princeton property, took his pay in Continental money & lost it all. He sussequently lived in Coleraine, MA (now called Colrain) but died across the state line in Vermont; his burial site is unknown.
