Peter Nicklaus Died of a Heart Attack

Peter Balthazar Nicklaus was born on February 15, 1901, at Parkersburg, the son of George and Elizabeth Tiedeken Nicklaus. He passed away suddenly of a heart attack on August 4, 1965, at the home in which he was born.

He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School, attended Loras College at Dubuque, and was a graduate of the LaSalle Extension University of Chicago business course.

For a number of years Peter was employed by the Gifford Grain Company as an auditor and manager of elevators. For the past 31 years he has farmed on the family farm located northwest of Parkersburg.

Peter was a lifelong member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and had been a long time member of the Knights of Columbus. Included in his many activities was the presidency of the Monroe township Board of Education for many years; at the time of his death he was on the board of the Parkersburg Rural Fire Association and chairman of the ASC township board. For many years he was active in the Democratic party and at the time of his death held the position of township committeeman. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and of the Farmers Union. Throughout his life his musical talent had been graciously available on many occasions.

On Feb. 5, 1929, he was married to Agnes Heger in Madelia, Minn., who passed away in 1944. Born to this marriage were 4 surviving children, Gerald of Diagonal, Iowa; Mrs. Roy (Georgia) Rewerts of Parkersburg; Romaine of La Mirada, Calif; and Justin of New Hartford; also one child, who died in infancy.

On April 9, 1945, he was married to Lula Caswell in Madelia, Minn.

He was preceded in death by the aforementioned wife, Agnes, and infant and his parents and 2 sisters. Surviving are his wife Lula, the children named above; and two brothers, Fred of Parkersburg, George E. of Arlington Heights, Ill; and 3 sisters, Mrs. Joe Heger of LaSalle, Minn; Mrs. Hugh Scallon of Ackley; and Mrs. Norbert Richman of Waterloo.

Funeral services were held August 7 at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parkersburg with interment in the St. Patrick's cemetery.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral services of Peter B. Nicklaus were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Nicklaus, Arlington Heights, Illinois, Mr. and Mrs. Eed Caswell, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Heger of LaSalle, Minnesota, Mrs. Gladys Lewis, St. Paul, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Pawley, Madelia, Minnesota, the Conrad Tiedeken family of Hanska, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Gerard Nicklaus of Diagonal, Iowa and Romaine Nicklaus of La Mirada, California. Sister Mary Lisa Nicklaus of Dubuque spent Saturday in Parkersburg to attend the funeral of her uncle, Peter Nicklaus.
