He was born June 1, 1921, in Hibbing to Frank and Anna (Skorvc) Spanish. John served his country during World War II in the Navy. He was employed with the Sherman Mine, and later with U.S. Steel as a mechanic. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Hibbing, the D.A.V., the American Legion, the Hibbing VFW Post 1221 of Hibbing and the local Teamsters Union 1938. John held two terms in the House of Representatives, and served on the Hibbing City Council for various terms.
He is survived by his sister, Ruth Hollowell; six nephews; and his five nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George, Rudy and Tony Spanish; and four sisters, Eleanor Davis, Mildred Spanish, Mary Ann West, and Ann Amic.
Interment in the Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing.
