From Protestant church records of Schönaich, John was a soldier and a weaver. He had two marriages in Württemberg, first on 12 Apr 1842 to Anna Catharina Lauxmann, second on 13 Oct 1853 Anna Katharina Schilling. He deserted his wife, brought 2 children with him to the U.S., and remarried for the 3rd time to Catherine Crowley(or Hayes) from Ireland. We do not have a record of their marriage in the U.S. He became a naturalized citizen.

From census and city directory records in Phila we found him working with son, John, as a huckster, selling produce.

Death notice Phila Inquirer, 2 Mar 1895, P 7, REBMANN-On the 25th ult, John Rebmann, in his 79th year. The relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, on Sunday, March 3, at 1 PM, from his late residence, 2120 Fairmount avenue. To proceed to the Northwood Cemetery.
