Dr. Frank Jerome Brown, 89, of 260 Scheidler Road, Chippewa Falls, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.

He was born Dec. 27, 1913, in Chippewa Falls, the only child of Rosamond (Nolop) and Rome Brown. He grew up in Chippewa Falls, graduating from Chippewa Falls High School in 1932, and attending Eau Claire Normal School from 1934 to 1936.

He attended Marquette University School of Medicine from 1936 to 1940, earning a medical degree in 1941, after interning at St. Joseph’s Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. from 1940 to 1941.

Upon graduation, Frank worked at Northern Pacific Hospital in St. Paul from 1941 to 1942, and United Verde Hospital in Jerome, Ariz, from 1942 to 1943. He then attended Wesley Hospital in Chicago, followed by Northwestern University Medical School Dept. of Ophthalmology from 1943 to 1944, and University of Iowa Medical School Dept. of Ophthalmology from 1944 to 1947.

He then practiced ophthalmology in Minneapolis, Minn. from 1947 to 1948, at Eugene Clinic in Eugene, Ore. from 1948 to 1949, and in Chippewa Falls from 1949 to 1970. In 1970, he began practicing in Eau Claire, where he founded the Chippewa Valley Eye Clinic and remained in practice until his retirement in 1981.

Frank married Ursula Kopischke in Chippewa Falls on Aug. 31, 1949.

He was a member of the Chippewa Falls Masonic Lodge No. 176 F. & A.M.; Tripoli Shrine, Milwaukee; Chippewa Shrine Club; Masonic Consistory, Eau Claire; and past president of the Chippewa Falls School Board. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, golfing and travel.

Survivors inlcude his wife, Ursula of Chippewa Falls; two sons, Tom (Constance) Brown of Parker, Colo., Greg (Donna) Brown of Eau Claire; a daughter, Julie (Scott) Turner of Eau Claire; six grandchildren, Ryan Brown and Sarah Brown, both of Colorado, Matthew Brown, Katie Turner, Amanda Turner, and Adam Turner, all of Eau Claire.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at Bethesda Lutheran Bretheran Church, 123 W. Hamilton Ave., Eau Claire, with the Rev. Rodney Venberg of Bethesda Lutheran Bretheran Church and Pastor Paul Berthiaume of Jacob’s Well officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls, and an hour prior to the service Saturday at church. There will be a Masonic service conducted by Chippewa Falls Masonic Lodge #176 F. & A.M. at 6:30 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral chapel.

Frank will be dearly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Eau Claire Christian High School.
