Yorks were common to Cornish and Claremont during the early years of these towns. Most lived in the north part of Claremont, while some settled in Cornish.
William was the first of the name to settle in Cornish.Married Lucy Hilliard of Cornish, a sister to Dea Samuel Hilliard.
His second wife was Betsey Choate.
He was a soldier of the Revolution. His name appears in Capt Oliver Ashley's Co of Col Benj Bellows' regt at Ticonderoga May, 1777 and was probably at Saratoga the following Sept and at the Surrender of Burgoyne in 1777. Some time after this he came to Cornish and spent the remainder of his life on a farm.
He had nine children all by his first wife.
