Galveston, Texas, May 6. -- J. J. Schott, 81, pioneer druggist of the State and proprietor of the oldest drug store in Texas, died at his home here Sunday. Funeral arrangements have not completed, but burial will be in Hallettsville. Born in Germany in 1846, Mr. Schott came to Galveston with his parents when he was a boy. He entered the drug business here in 1866 and had been in the same location continuously, his store having filled more than 1,000,000 prescriptions. During the yellow fever epidemic in Galveston after the Civil War Mr. Schott ministered to the sick and kept his drug store open at all hours to supply medicine. Surviving Mr. Schott are his wife, a daughter, Miss Christine Schott of San Angelo; two brothers, William Schott of Hallettsville and Henry Schott of Sublime, and two grandsons.
