Mehitable A. Doane, born May 15, 1794, Orrington, Maine, is a child of Revolutionary War Patriot Oliver Doane and his wife Sarah. Mehitable, at age 27, married James Smith as his second wife, September 10, 1821 in Orrington, and they had at least six children: James; Francis; Wallace; Otis; Mary; and Sarah. Two children in the family, James and Abigail, are frequently attributed to being children of Mehitable, but this is not so; they are children of Abigail Pierce, first wife of James Smith. Mehitable died August 11, 1881 in Orrington. Maine.
