Elma was united in marriage on June 12, 1943 in Chisholm to Niilo R. Salmi. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Chisholm. Elma made the best cinnamon rolls, Finnish flat bread and apple strudel. She always loved visits from her granddaughter and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her granddaughter: Tricia (Ted) Ann Mathis (Salmi); two great-grandchildren, daughter–in-law, Shirley Nunley; sister, Martha Santanello.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Niilo R. Salmi; son Raymond Neil Salmi; three brothers: Neilo, Walter, Arne; six sisters: Venny, Edia, Sylvia, Lillian, Helen, and infant sister Allina.
