Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Gayla Traina Cemetery in Jonesboro.
Mr. Thompson was born on August 29, 1953 and passed away on December 15, 2011. He was 58.
Survivors include his wife, Velma Thompson of Jonesboro, LA, one son, Kimble Lee Thompson of Jonesboro, LA, one sister, Terry Kohler and husband Glynn of Woodworth, LA, his aunt, Ludie Taylor of Deville, LA, his nephew Brad Kohler and wife Melissa of Lake Charles, LA and his great-nephews, Kayden Oliver and Grayson Lee Kohler. Father-in-law Ed Kimble, sister-in-law, Stephanie Kimble, nieces, Cassandra Kimble, Chancey Kimble, and Stormy Short.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Shirley Thompson.
David began his journey into the funeral service when he was 7 years old helping his father work a funeral in Jena, LA. They moved to Jonesboro in 1962 when his father came to work at Edmonds Funeral Home. He went onto graduate from Jonesboro-Hodge High School in 1971 where he enjoyed playing football. After working on a dredge boat for a couple of years he went to the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service where he graduated in 1978, now helping his father serve families at Edmonds Funeral Home during that time he met his wife Velma and they had a son Kimble, before taking over as owner in 1997.He was very involved in the Jonesboro United Methodist Church in Jonesboro where he served on many committees and also as lay leader. He had a passion for reading and also loved to travel and cook. He was an avid LSU and Saints fan. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club, and served as Grand Marshall of the 2010 Christmas parade in Jonesboro. David was a great husband, father, brother, boss and a friend to everyone. His love and dedication to the families and community that he served will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Jonesboro United Methodist Church, 402 4th St., Jonesboro, LA 71251.
Pallbearers will include, Eddie Gatlin, Kent McBride, Joey Earl, Scott Cruce, M.H. Walker and Wade McBride.
Services are under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home, in Jonesboro.
