Mr. Thomas E. Haynes, 78, June 19, 1997, at University Hospital, Augusta.
Burial with military honors will be in Bethany Cemetery.
Mr. Haynes, a native of Spencer, N.C., had lived in Aiken for 20 years. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University, George Washington University, the Army Command and General Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
He had retired from the Army with the rank of colonel in 1966 after 26 years. He worked in aviation research and development. He received the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal and the Legion of Merit.
He was a member of Houndslake Country Club and the CSRA Seniors Golfing Association. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Aiken, where he was a member of the Loman Tyler Sunday School Class.
