LILLIE MAE DEMPSEY, 93, Blountsville, died Friday, Sept. 9, 2011. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Oct. 1, at 2 p.m. at Garden City Cemetery. Vernon Alvis will officiate.

Mrs. Dempsey was born Feb. 27, 1918, in Blount County to Andrew Byrd and Roxie Webb Tankersley. She was wife of Edmond Dempsey of Garden City. They were farmers in their early marriage and moved to Michigan, where he worked at Pontiac Motors for several years. After returning to Alabama, he worked as a logger and she as a caregiver at Garden City Nursing Home until it closed.

She was predeceased by parents and husband; brothers George Webb and Herman, Raymond, Wilson, John Henry, and J.B. Tankersley; and sisters Ethel Boone and Ella Tankersley. She is survived by sistersin law Gracie Tankersly and Ollie Rouse.
