Born into a Houston founding family, Mr. Longcope was a product of the Houston Public Schools. He went on to study Engineering at Texas A&M, Class of 1920, and later studied at Columbia University in New York. In World War I Mr. Longcope trained and was commissioned at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois, and went on to Camp Taylor in Kentucky and a Commission in the Artillery. After the Armistice he resumed studies at Texas A&M and at Columbia University. Mr. Longcope captained the first Freshman and subsequent Varsity Basketball Teams. He was All SW Conference each year he played and had no equal in his competitive years and alltime A&M Great selection. In Houston he played with the Sate Champions, Houston Triangles and was a prominent bowler and chess player. Mr. Longcope was a Senior Member of Langham-Langston and Dyer General Insurance.
