Betty Brooks of Lemoore passed away Friday, December 9, 2011 in a Fresno hospital. She touched many lives. She was an inspiration to everyone that she came into contact with. She had many talents and careers over her lifespan. She was active as Community Leader for Island 4-H from 1972-1980 and was also involved in the Island School Mothers Club, she's been a member of the Hanford Garden Club hosting and attending numerous events, she owned a dress shop, Addie Brooks Fashions, in downtown Lemoore for many years. She belonged to the Lemoore Chamber of Commerce and was the 1983-1984 Recipient of Outstanding Service Award to the Lemoore Chamber of Commerce & City of Lemoore.
Betty was known to graciously offer the "Brooks Barn" for weddings, showers, holiday events, fund raising events for many different clubs and organizations and of course for any and all Brooks Family gatherings.
Her love for God was her life, and where she found peace and strength within her faith. The love she showed for her family was unconditional and never ending. She loved when family and friends called or stopped by for a visit or a cup of coffee. She had a passion for cooking and found great joy in buying cookbooks and preparing a luncheon for her friends or family. She enjoyed traveling and meeting people from different walks of life, some that have turned into lifelong friendships. She had fun organizing events for the family, gardening or planning her next trip.
All who knew her knew that when Betty had an idea or thought of something she needed or wanted to do, it was done today, not tomorrow! She was an organizer and knew how to get things done.
A favorite memory of her grandkids is when she and Grandpa took five of them to Hawaii and then on to Australia for three weeks. She had every single minute of every single day planned out with no time to rest! She was a generous and patient Grandmother. Her grandchildren adored her.
Betty had so many people in her life that meant so much to her from her family members, neighbors, employees, a volunteer or just a stranger off the street; she would open up her home and her heart to see that they were taken care of. She believed that you had to give back and she always did. She was so grateful for the special people that occupied her life, as her mother Jennie and sister Naoma whom she talked to every day, her good friend, Fatima Lima, who was with her every Friday and Judy Merritt who helped her by taking her to many doctor appointments, meetings, luncheons and shopping. She was also so grateful for Cindy Dunn who became her caretaker in June after her surgery.
Betty had a love of life and it showed. She liked to look at things as "The glass is half full". She inspired many around her with her optimistic outlook on life and her determination despite her illness. She was a wonderful role model and admired greatly by her family and friends. She will be remembered for her generous nature and compassion for others and she will be missed deeply by so many.
